Day 9, day 10 and day 11

Sunday, August 17th, 2008

In day 9 we were going to get more backlinks to our site and find out if we were indexed by the search engines. In day 10 we were going to submit our RSS feed using the thirty day challenge RSS submit tool.
In day 11 we were going to make a squidoo lens and social bookmark it.

I just completed my lens and I am going to social bookmark it now and also build some more backlinks because my blog hasn’t been indexed by google yet… Hopefully google will come soon..

Day 7 and Day 8

Friday, August 15th, 2008

Day 7 was very easy. Just added google analytics and tracking links to the blog. I installed the google analytics plugin to add google analytics easily to wordpress. I don’t want to use the 30 day challenge click tracking tool, so for now I just added a new folder in my hosting account and uploaded a file with a PHP redirect. Then I can check the hosting stats to see how many hits this file receives.

In day 8 we used socialmarker to bookmark our website at propeller, digg, delicious, stumble upon and twitter.

Two easy days completed and I’m heading off to work on day 9 of the thirty day challenge

Day 5 and day 6

Thursday, August 14th, 2008

I have completed my copy for day 4 of the 30 day challenge. I cannot believe I procrastinated all day for such a small task. The research and technical stuff is fun, but I don’t enjoy writing. I think it is because ever since primary school I have always felt my writing isn’t good enough, so I have to remind myself I don’t have to be Shakespeare to learn online marketing and this is really a different kind of writing than what we were taught to write at school.

In day 6 we were going to get our blog online with the service wordpress direct. I decided to install wordpress myself on my domain since I don’t have cpanel enabled hosting. Also I don’t want to be dependent on their service to get my blogs online. It did take a while to read about all those plugins and configure them. Also I’m not 100% happy with the blog theme and was planning to edit it, but I will skip that for now since I am still learning CSS and it will take too much time now that I want to catch up.

I have almost finished day 5, which task was to write the first aricle for the blog. I just need to add the last paragraph which I am heading off to fix right now… and… possibly will give a shot at fixing the theme a little bit, but I should really kick that perfectionist out and focusing on moving forward.. I can always fix the design later if I get traffic.

Day 4

Monday, August 11th, 2008

I just started working on day 4 of the thirty day challenge. Today’s task is to find a product and write a short 40-50 words sales copy. I picked niche number 3 because it has more traffic and less competing pages than niche number 4. So now I am going to post this before I change my mind once again about the niche and head off to write my first slippery copy…

Day 3

Monday, August 11th, 2008

It took some time to finish day two. I had some problems with the market samurai software not gathering all the data. So much for planning to catch up, but I need to spend however long it takes to complete this important part of the process. I have come up with some niches that fits the competition and research criteria

Niche 1: I am not interested in this topic at all, but I have a good friend that is a potential future business partner, so I am quite intrigued by this niche..
Niche 2: This niche seems to be very good, but I don’t like this niche at all. In fact it is a niche that brings me great anxiety, so those who know me well may be able to guess what it is.
Niche 3: This niche is a niche I like and I think it would be easier to write content in this niche than the previous two.
Niche 4: I really love this niche and it almost fits the 30 day challenge competition criteria with just above 30 000 competing sites. I did get a bit ahead of myself and registered a domain already.
Niche 5: This is a niche I have some knowledge about, but it is a bit high on the competition with almost 32 000 competing sites.

After completing the competition research in day 3, I am left with niche 1, niche 3 and niche 4. We’ll see which I end up choosing…

Day 2

Saturday, August 9th, 2008

Day one was easy, but it seems the real work will begin now. I have my list of about 10 niches and I have one absolute favourite that I hope will get through the needle eye during the keyword research.

Today’s task is to find a microniche with less than 30 000 competitors and phrases with 80-100 searches pr day.

I have installed the free 40 day trial version of a keyword research program called market samurai and am now heading off to do my keyword research. Hopefully I will be back tomorrow with some good niche ideas that satisfies the microniche criteria for the 30 day challenge :-)

Day 1

Saturday, August 9th, 2008

I just got back from summer vacation and decided to take the 30 day challenge. The training lesson for day 9 has been posted and I am planning to catch up during the weekend, starting on day two later. It’s never too late to join, so if you would like a challenge, take a look at thirtydaychallenge.

So far I have performed the following tasks during preseason.

- Installed and configured the Flock browser. Installed addons.
- Signed up for twitter
- Installed twhirl.
- Familiarized myself with google reader.
- Joined stumbleupon and installed the tool bar.
- Joined friendfeed.

In day 1, Ed Dale talks about the process of starting an online business or what he calls “the symphony of four pars”. The four important factors are: Market research -> Traffic -> Conversion -> Product. He also shows how we can use amazon magazine category to find market ideas.
I have 10+ ideas written down and I am ready for day 2.
